Career Brief

I started my career at a startup called Z2Live back in 2011. I worked on Battle Nations for 4 years, then Paradise Bay for another 2-3 years. The last year or so before Z2 shutdown, I worked on a bunch of prototypes and pitches. During that eight year stretch, Z2 became a King studio, which in turn became an Activision studio. And now everything is Microsoft.

When Z2 shut down in 2019, a few of us decided to start a new studio called Perfect Day. We’ve been surviving the 2020s with a few projects here and there, most notably launching games such as Eight Era and Temple Run: Puzzle Adventure. We also released a board game featuring our own IP - Robot Quest: Arena. I’m still here trying to make Robot Quest the video game.

2011 -Started as a 2d artist at Z2Live

When I started at Z2Live, the company was just beginning to build their in-house development team for their games. About 6 months after I had started, we launched Battle Nations which became a critical title for the studio. During the first couple of years, I worked under the studio art lead Jason English and later on John Duggan. After that time, I essentially became the defacto art lead of the project until it was sunset in 2015. My official role at that point was Senior 2D Artist.

2013 - Robot Quest begins

I’ve always drawn robots and characters, but at this point I created more cohesive concept art in my spare time and started sharing it on the internet with the title Robot Quest. It was just a passion project for many years while I continued working at Z2.

2015 - Published Work in popular Comic Series Robots vs Zombies - IDW Publishing

One of the creators of the series reached out to me to be a guest artist in their comic. I created a spread and he did some extra narration. I believe this was in volume 7.

2015- Published work in Robot Envy Zenith - Art Book

Robot Zenith is a compilation of robot art done by various illustrators. One of the creators reached out to me to participate.

2015 - King acquires Z2 and I move over to Paradise Bay

I moved over to Paradise Bay as a concept artist before the game was launched world wide. Paradise Bay was a mobile resource management game and the first title released under King.

2017-2019 - Pitching and Prototyping

Back at the studio we came up with lots of cool ideas that we would refine into presentations and later prototypes. During this time I relearned how to use the Unity Engine as we were moving on from our in-house engine. I finally got to implement art and UI professionally. This marked a turning point in my career as someone who soley made art into getting my hands more on the products itself.

2019 - Z2 Shuts Down

Z2 was shut down in February 2019. I had spent the first 8 years of my career there and worked on great games with some great people. Luckily I kinda knew what the next step was, but also sneaked in some extra jobs before that time came.

2019 - Concept art for Table Trenches - AR Mobile Game

A couple of guys from Bungie found me at an Artist Alley and commissioned me to do some intitial concepts for their AR game which was eventually released on mobile devices.

2019 - Vehicle concepts for unannounced project for Cartoon Network

2019 - Co-founded Perfect Day Studios as the Creative Director

The next chapter in my career came by teaming up with some former co-workers from King/Z2 to form Perfect Day.

2020 - Published work in Indie Game Zine

2021 - Launched Temple Run: Puzzle Adventure for Apple Arcade under Scopely

Our team was initially brought on to aid the launch of Temple Run: Puzzle Adventure. In the beginning I was actually a Project Manager doing things I’ve never done before. It wasn’t long until I got to make some environmental concept art for some new areas in the game. After the game launched, I helped out with UI art and eventually oversaw outsourcing doing the art.

2021 - Released Robot Quest: Arena in partnership with Wise Wizard Games - board game

Before we had any programmers on the team, we accidentally made a really fun board game together in our CEO’s basement. We weren’t sure what would come of it, but eventually found a perfect partner in Wise Wizards. The Kickstarter was a huge success and eventually the game released to the public. As the creator of Robot Quest, this is probably my proudest moment.

2024 - Released Eighth Era with partnership with Nice Gang

On this project, we started pitching a game to Nice Gang with their original IP. I worked closely with their Creative Director throughout the project. As the team grew, I mostly did all of the VFX for the characters while serving as mentor to the younger artists on the team. I also implemented sound effects and hired a talented musician to create the tracks for the game.

2026 - Herobot Quest

Over the years we worked on a mobile game internally when we had some spare time. It was a mobile game based in the Robot Quest universe. This game was never technically funded, but drew lots of interest over time. It never released, but I still have the latest version on my phone that I’ll occasionally show off to people.

2026 - Godot and Pixel art

After spending many years developing with Unity, I decided it was a good time to learn an emerging engine in the Indie scene. As someone who’s always been inspired by the SNES and GBA eras, I thought it be fun to pick up some pixel art skills as well.
